Copics Tutorial #3 - Basic Coloring PART II

Welcome to the second part of the Copics Basic Coloring Tutorial. On this part I will show you an "alternate" technique I learned from several Manga artists. It is basically the same procedure as on the first part, but only doing it backwards. What I mean by "doing it backwards" is that, instead of coloring: light color-dark color-light color... we will do: dark color-light color-dark color.
Bienvenidas a esta segunda parte del Tutorial de Pintura Básica con Copics. En esta parte les voy a enseñar una técnica "alterna" que utilizan los artistas de Manga. Es básicamente lo mismo que el procedimiento anterior, sólo que a la inversa. Cuando digo "inversa" me refiero a que, en vez de colorear: color claro-color oscuro-color claro... van a colorear: color oscuro-color claro-color oscuro.

Many Manga artists do it this way because the colors tend to blend better than if doing it the other way! And "I" personally like it too! But like any other technique, I highly recommend you that you practice both techniques and THEN decide which one best suits you ;)
Muchos artistas de Manga prefieren este método, ya que los colores tienden a mezclarse mucho mejor que con el método normal. ¡Y "YO" personalmente también prefiero este otro método alterno! Pero como en cualquier otra técnica, les sugiero que primero practiquen ambas técnicas y LUEGO decidan cuál les agrada más ;)

Now let me show you how it is done:
Ahora déjenme mostrarles cómo es que se hace:

Step #1: On your stamped image, start drawing the shadows using the darkest color. (In this case, I'm coloring first Hope's face and I'm using E21.)
Paso #1: En la imágen estampada, comienzen por colorear primero las sombras usando el color más oscuro. (En este caso, estoy coloreando la carita de Hope primero y utilizé el E21.)

Step #2: Now using the lightest skin color, color the rest of the face, remembering to "blend" where both colors touch.
Paso #2: Ahora utilizando el color de piel más claro, colorea el resto de la cara, recordando siempre "mezclar" bien donde ambos colores chocan.

See? Now do the same procedure for the rest of her body/clothes. See the pics below:
¿Vieron? Ahora realiza el mismo procedimiento para el resto del cuerpo y ropa, según se muestra en las fotos:



Step #3: For the hair, I just "outlined" her hair using my darkest color, and then blended it with the lightest color.
Paso #3: Para la cabeza, simplemente "delinié" su cabello usando el color más oscuro, y luego lo mezclé con el color más claro.


And we're done!
¡Y terminamos!

So what do you think? On the left side is Hope with the first technique and on the right side is Hope with the second technique. IMHO, I think both techniques work perfectly fine, and they even can be combined in one single image, depending on the effect that we want to give to our image ;) Like I said, PRACTICE~PRACTICE both techniques and use the one that best suits you!
¿Qué les parece? Al lado izquierdo está Hope con la primera técnica y en el lado derecho está Hope con la segunda técnica. En mi opinión, creo que ambas técnicas funcionan a la perfección e inclusive se pueden utilizar ambas en una misma imágen, dependiendo del efecto que se le quiera dar a nuestra imágen ;) Pero como les mencioné anteriormente, PRACTIQUEN~PRACTIQUEN ambas técnicas y utiliza la que mejor te convenga!

Copics Tutorial #3 - Basic Coloring

After much babbling, today we are FINALLY going to start coloring with our Copics. Due to the many pic this tutorial has, I have divided it in two parts. This first part is the actual basic coloring with Copics using one and/or two color tones, while the second one is an alternative method you can use to color your images.
Luego de mucha babosería, hoy FINALMENTE comenzaremos a colorear con nuestros Copics. Debido a la gran cantidad de fotos, decidí dividir este tutorial en dos partes. Esta primera parte trata de cómo colorear nuestra imágen con Copics usando solamente uno y/o dos tonos de color, mientras que la segunda es un método alterno que aprendí recientemente.

Basic Coloring with Copics

For today's tutorial I will be using Hope from The Greeting Farm. The first time I saw them, I immediately fell in love with these cuties and knew that they would be my main character for these tutorials ;) Now for the tutorial:
Para el tutorial de hoy estaré usando a Hope de The Greeting Farm. Desde la primera vez que las ví, me enamoré de ellas y supe que serían mis protagonistas para estos tutoriales ;) Ahora para el tutorial:

Step #1 - Stamp your image using Palette ink pad or Memento ink pad (remember what I talked to you about this on my first tutorial?).
Paso #1 - Estampa tu imágen usando la tinta Palette o Memento (¿recuerdan lo que les hablé sobre esto en mi primer tutorial?).


Important Note: Before we go to Step #2, it is important that you decide where the light will be coming from (on your image, of course) and where the shadows will be. For this image I decided that the light will be coming right from the front, so my shading will concentrate on both sides of the image.
Nota Importante: Antes de seguir con el Paso #2, es importante que decidas de dónde vendrá la luz (en tu imágen, claro está) y dónde estarán localizadas las sombras. Para esta imágen decidí que la luz vendría desde el mismo frente, así que las sombras se concentrarán a ambos lados de la imágen.

Step #2 - Using your lightest skin tone, mine is E00, and doing small circles color her face entirely.
Paso #2 - Usando tu tono de piel más claro, el mío es E00, y pintando en círculos pequeños colorea su cara en su totalidad.

Step #3 - Now using a second and darker skin tone color (I used E21), color the shades on your image.
Paso #3 - Ahora usando un segundo y más oscuro color de piel (yo usé E21), colorea las sombras de la cara de tu imágen.

Step #4 - Using again your lightest skin tone (E00) and doing small circles, "blend" right where the two colors join in. See that darker area in her face? That's the blending I just did. Don't worry, it'll look like that while it's still wet, but once dry, the dark area will disappear!
Paso #4 - Usando de nuevo el color de piel más claro (E00) y haciendo pequeños círculos, "mezcla" justo ahí donde ambos colores se unen. ¿Ves esa parte oscura en su carita? Esa es la "mezclada" que le dí...jejeje Pero no se preocupen, se verá así mientras esté mojada, pero una vez seca, la parte oscura desaparecerá.

Step #5 - Now repeat the same process for both arms and legs.
Paso #5 - Ahora repite el mismo procedimiento para ambos brazos y piernas.



And we're done coloring her skin! Let's keep going...
¡Y terminamos de pintar su piel! Continuemos...

Step #6 - If you wish, you can add some blush to her cheeks.
Paso #6 - Si lo deseas, puedes añadirle rubor a sus mejillas.

I used R20 for this.
Para esto utilizé el R20.

Step #7 - Let's paint her skirt... for this one all I will be using is just ONE single color, RV23. Like on Step #2, color her skirt entirely doing small circles.
Paso #7 - Pintemos ahora su falta... para este paso usaré solamente UN sólo color, RV23. Al igual que en el Paso #2, colorea su falda en su totalidad haciendo círculos pequeños.

Step #8 - Now using the same color (RV23), outline her skirt. See pics above.
Paso #8 - Ahora usando el mismo color (RV23), delinea su falta. Mira las fotos abajo.


Step #9 - Repeat previous step with her shirt and headband. For this I used RV29.
Paso #9 - Repite el proceso anterior con la blusa y diadema. Para esto usé RV29.

Step #10 - Going back to the "two-step coloring", use your lightest color to color her tie and shoes. I used YG03. Trick: Notice how I left a white spot to simulate glowing shoes?
Paso #10 - Volviendo a la pintura en dos pasos, usa tu color más claro para pintar su lazo y zapatos. Yo utilizé YG03. Orejita: ¿Vieron cómo dejé un pequeño espacio en blanco? Esto es para simular el brillo en sus zapatos.

Step #11 - Now using a darker color (mine was G94), shade her rie and shoes.
Paso #11 - Ahora usando un color mas oscuro (el mio es G94), sombrea su lazo y zapatos.

Step #12 - With the lightest color again (YG03), blend the darkest color with the lighest one, just like we did on Step #3.
Paso #12 - De nuevo con el color mas claro (YG03), mezcla ambos colores oscuro y claro, igual que hicimos en el Paso #3.

Step #13 - Repeat the same process with her hair. For her hair I used Y11 (lighter color) and Y15 (darker color).
Paso #13 - Repite el mismo procedimiento para el pelo. Para su pelo use Y11 (color claro) y Y15 (color oscuro).


AND WE'RE DONE!!! Here's our finished image:

Copics Tutorial #2 - Choosing Colors

Here's Tutorial #2 for Copics. This tutorial is about "choosing colors"... and if you read my first tutorial on Copics, you will know that this is all about MY experience on them. So, what I'm going to "actually" talk to you about here is how I CHOSE MY color combination. But first let me tell you something I learned about Copic colors:
Aquí el Tutorial #2 para Copics. Este tutorial se trata de "cómo escoger colores"... y si leyeron mi primer tutorial sobre Copics, habrán visto que esto es todo basado en MI experiencia con ellos. Así que, lo que "realmente" les voy a hablar aquí es de cómo YO escogí MI combinación de colores. Pero primero déjenme hablarles sobre algo que aprendí sobre los colores de Copic:

First, you will notice that they have this "coding": E00, Y11, G63, etc. Don't let this scare you! This is actually how they are categorized and once you are familiar with this, it will be easier for you to choose colors.
Primero notarán que los Copics tienen como un "código": E00, Y11, G63, etc. ¡No dejes que esto te asuste! Esto en realidad es cómo están categorizados y una vez te familiarizes con esto, se te hará más fácil escoger los colores.


So, what does this "coding" mean?
Así que, ¿qué significa este "código"?

The letters stand for the actual color of the maker. So, this means that:
Las letras significan el color real del marcador. Por tal motivo:

• E = Earth/Tierra
  
• B = Blue/Azul
• V = Violet/Violeta
• Y = Yellow/Amarillo
• R = Red/Rojo

But I see two letters in some makers? Because that's the mixture of two colors:
¿Pero veo dos letras en algunos marcadores? Esa es la mezcla de dos colores:

• YG = Yellow Green/Verde-Amarillo
• BG = Blue Green/Verde-Azul
• RV = Red Violet/Rojo-Violeta

Pretty easy, ha?
Sencillo, verdad?

But what about the numbers?
¿Y qué hay de los números?

The "middle" number helps you keep the same tone color, while the "second" or "last" number tells you how light or dark the color is (the smaller the number, the lighter the color will be... the higher the number, the darker the color will be).
El número del medio te ayuda a mantener la misma tonalidad, mientras que el último número te dice qué tan claro u obscuro es el color (mientras más bajo el número, más claro será el color... mientras más alto el número, más oscuro será el color).

OK, I know... you're getting confused! I'll show you what I did:
Sí, ya sé... ¡estás confundida! Te mostraré cómo lo hice:

Look at the color wheel (you can also download it from www.copicmarker.com).
Mira la rueda de color (tambien puedes bajarla en www.copicmarker.com).


Notice how colors are arranged by group or color family (all blues, all violets, all reds, etc.). Now, I wanted to have at least two colors of the same family (two blues, two violets, two reds, etc.)... of course, you choose the amount of colors that your budget allows you to...LOL! But the fun with Copics is to "blend" several colors to obtain a shade or certain effect, so you might want to choose at least two colors!!
Nota como los colores estan agrupados por familia de color (todos los azules juntos, todos los violeta juntos, todos los rojos juntos, etc.). Yo queria tener al menos dos colores de cada familia de color (dos azules, dos violeta, dos rojos, etc.)... por supuesto, tu escoges la cantidad de colores que tu presupuesto te permita...LOL! Pero lo divertido de los Copics es el "mezclar" diferentes colores para lograr algun efecto en la imagen, asi que desearas tener al menos dos colores a mano!!!

Let's pick violet for example. I wanted to have two violets, so I looked into the color wheel and picked ONE violet: V15. Next, IN THE SAME ROW, I chose another violet: V17. But guess what? I "love" violets! So I HAD to have one third color, so looking IN THE SAME ROW, I picked V12. And there's my violet color combination! Was that easy or what? LOL!
A modo de ejemplo, escogeremos el violeta. Yo queria tener dos tonos violetas, asi que mire la rueda de color y escogi UN violeta: V15. Luego, EN LA MISMA LINEA, escogi otro violeta: V17. Pero, adivinen que? Me "encanta" el violeta! Asi que TENIA que tener un tercer violeta, entonces buscando EN LA MISMA LINEA, escogi el V12. Y ahi ya tenia mi combinacion de violetas! Facil, verdad?

The trick here is to:
El truco esta en que:

1. Pick a color that you like. / Escoge un color que te guste.
   
2. In the same row, pick a second color that you wish (either lighter or darker). / Luego en la misma linea, escoges un segundo color (ya sea mas claro o mas oscuro).
   

Want a third color? Choose another one from the same row (either lighter or darker from the previous two).
Deseas un tercer color? Entonces escoge otro de la misma linea (ya sea mas claro o mas oscuro de los dos anteriores).

Now do the same procedure for the other colors that you want to have. And if you're a stamper, don't forget to choose your skin tones. You can find those in the Earth group.
Ahora realiza el mismo procedimiento para los demas colores. Y si eres estampera, no te olvides de escoger los colores carne. Estos estan en la familia de los colores "tierra" (Earth).

Note that there are certain exeptions to this... like some colors WILL blend well with other colors from another color family. But, if you're not a color expert or still unsecure on how Copics work, then I suggest you to stick to the same color family!
Noten que hay ciertas excepciones a esto... algunos colores si mezclaran bien con otros colores de otro grupo de familias de color. Pero si no eres una experta en colores o si todavia no te sientes segura trabajando con los Copics, entonces te sugiero que te mantengas en una misma linea de colores!

Also, if you're opting for Ciaos, make sure that the colors you choose are available for Ciaos, since not all of them are! (Refer to my previous tutorial.)
Tambien, si optas por los Ciaos, asegurate de que los colores que escogiste esten disponibles para Ciaos, ya que no todos lo estan! (Refierete a mi anterior tutorial.)

Finally, if this is still too much for you, there are packages (including one for stampers and scrapbookers) with color combinations already picked out for you. They come in different sizes and budgets. Check with your preferred dealer for their availability.
Finalmente, si todavia esto es muy complicado para ti, existen paquetes (incluyendo uno para estamperas y escrapbuqueras) con combinaciones de color ya previamente seleccionadas. Estos vienen en diferentes tamanos y costos. Verifica con tu tienda preferida para disponibilidad.

Let's Talk "Copics"

Yeah, yeah... I've been a terrible blogger! Haven't blogged in about two weeks now?!? ALL I CAN SAY is that "Sometimes life interferes with our cyber life!" Things have been a little bit complicated over the last months... and I won't get into much details though... but I AM trying to hang in there and live one day at the time ;-)
Si, si, lo se... he sido una terrible bloggera! No he bloggeado desde hace como dos semanas?!? TODO LO QUE VOY A DECIR es que "A veces la vida interfiere con la vida cibernetica!" Las cosas han estado un tanto complicadas en los ultimos meses... y no voy a entrar en detalles... pero ESTOY ahi, viviendo un dia a la vez :-)

In the meantime, I'm trying to focus on what I love the most (besides my family, of course!)... and that is my crafting. So this time, my crafting madness has directed me to enter the fabulous world of Copics! I know that many of you have heard of this name... maybe seen what they do... or even have tried them. So, what I am going to share today is from MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE on these fellas. And before I start, I want to make clear the following:
Mientras tanto, trato de concentrarme en lo que mas quiero (a parte de mi familia, por supuesto!)... y son mis manualidades. Asi que esta vez, mi adiccion a las manualidades me ha llevado al fabuloso mundo de los Copics! Se que muchas han escuchado este nombre... quizas han visto lo que hacen... y hasta quizas los hayan probado. En fin, lo que les voy a compartir hoy es de MI PROPIA EXPERIENCIA con ellos. Asi que, antes de empezar, quiero que tengan claro lo siguiente:

Now, with all that said, "Let's Talk About Copics"!
Con eso dicho, "Hablemos de Copics!"

I won't get into much technical stuff... for that, you can visit www.copicmarker.com and there you will find that information. But I will mention that:
No voy a entrar en mucho detalle tecnico... para eso pueden visitar www.copicmarker.com y alli encontraran valiosa informacion. Pero si mencionare que:

• They are alcohol based. / Estan basados en alcohol.
  
• They last A LOT! (approx. 2 years for Ciaos and 3+ years for Sketch). / Duran UN MONTON! (aprox. 2 anos para los Ciaos y 3+ anos para Sketch).
• They are refillable. / Son recargables.
• They have two nibs, a wide one and a thin one. / Tienen doble punta, una ancha y otra fina.
  
• You can change the nibs. / Puedes cambiar las puntas cuando se danen.
• You can blend and blend and blend the colors without messing up the nibs or without the need to clean them. Also your paper won't get ruined by doing this ;-) / Puedes mezclar y mezclar y mezclar los colores sin que se danen las puntas y sin la necesidad de limpiarlas. Now, the most common are the Sketch and the Ciaos.

• Last a lot, but not as much as the Sketch. / Duran bastante, aunque no tanto como los Sketch.
• There are many colors to choose from, but not as much as the Sketch. / Hay muchos colores para escoger, aunque no tantos como los Sketch.

So to start up, I got the Ciaos... I even got a cute wallet to carry them! :-)
Asi que para empezar, compre los Ciaos... incluso consegui una cartera para guardarlos! :-)



Among the other things that you may want to have are: / Entre otras cosas que desearas tener estan:

• A Color Blender. You can find this right where you purchase your Copics. Later on, on my next tutorial, I will explain what it is used for. / Un Color Blender. Lo puedes encontrar donde mismo compres tus Copics. Luego en un proximo tutorial explicare para que se utiliza.
• Cardstock. Even though they work well on regular paper, cardstock is much more absorbent and will give your image a nice finish. / Papel Cardstock. Aun cuando trabajan bien en papel regular, el cardstock es mucho mas absorvente y le dara a tu imagen un acabado nitido.
• Palette Ink Pad. This is "a must" when you're stamping. I tried other inks like Stazon and Versamark and the ink runs when coloring with Copics, but with Palette, the ink stays where it is supposed to stay and won't smudge. You can find it through your "Angel Consultant" from The Angel Company ;-) I was also told that Memento Ink works well too, but I haven't tried that one out, so I don't know. / Tinta Palette. Es "imperativa" si vas a estampar. Trate otras como Stazon y Versamark y al pintar con Copics, la tinta se corria, pero con Palette, la tinta se mantuvo en su lugar y no se rego. Puedes encontrala a traves de tu "angel" de The Angel Company ;-) Tambien me dijeron que la tinta Memento funciona con los Copics, pero no la he probado, asi que no puedo sugerirla.

Finally, where can you buy them? / Finalmente, donde puedes comprarlos?

Card Patterns Sketch 17

So I decided to join in the fun and did the sketch posted on Card Patterns... you can check their challenge -->here<--. I really loved that sketch and I think I will be using it a few times more for other cards I'm planning to give ;)
Pues decidí entrarle a la diversión y hacer el reto del sketch posteado en Card Patterns... para más detalles del reto vayan -->aquí<--. Me gustó mucho este sketch y creo que lo estaré usando para otras tarjetas que pienso regalar ;)

You can't notice it in the pic, but the pink patterned paper is attached to the orange one with pop-up dots... I wanted to add that 3D detail, but in the pic it doesn't show up :( Anyway, it is there. Also the title was attached using pop-up dots and it reads "Happy Birthday" in Spanish.

Card Purse

Hi everyone! I hope that you're enjoying your day as much as I am :-D Today I want to show you a "card purse" I did for a friend of mine... actually it is a late birthday present, but I'm sure she won't mind ;-)
¡Hola a todas! Espero que, al igual que yo, estén disfrutando de un hermoso día :-D Hoy les quiero mostrar un bolso para tarjetas que hice para una amiga... en realidad es un regalo de cumpleaños atrasado, pero estoy segura de que a ella no le va a molestar ;-)

To make this cutie, I used Julie Buhler's tutorial... I just ~love~ to visit her blog, since it is full with great ideas and lovely stuff! Aaannddd of course I had to have an excuse to use my new Magnolia stamp :-D

What is it all about? / ¿De qué se trata todo?
TCC is a take-at-home class, where at the commodity of your home and at your own pace, you will learn to create four different cards using different mediums and techniques. One of the best things is that our instructions were designed specifically in a way so that 'anyone', even those without any prior experience in scrapbooking and cardmaking, can make these cards. At the end, you will end up with four beautiful cards, all very easy to make and using the least of materials, and yet they will still look elaborate, making you look like a real pro! :-D
TCC es una clase en casa, donde desde la comodidad de tu hogar y a tu propio paso, aprenderás a crear cuatro tarjetas diferentes usando diferentes técnicas y materiales. Una de las ventajas de esto es que las instrucciones fueron diseñadas específicamente de manera que 'cualquiera', hasta aquellos que no tengan nada de experiencia con la tarjetería y el scrapbooking, puedan hacer estas tarjetas. No. This is a 'one-time, limited edition' collection. It means that "who knows when" there will be another class... but of course, it will all depend on demand! ;-)

OK, it works this way... there are two options that you can choose from:

OMG, desde hace tiempo tenía esta idea dándome vueltas en la cabeza y FINALMENTE está aquí!! Es un kit-clase de tarjetas con instrucciones paso-a-paso (todas las fotos son a color!) para completar cuatro (4) lindas tarjetas (todas ellas son 100% originales y de mi propia inspiración), materiales para completarlas YYYYYY una SUPER ~CHULISIMA~ carpetita hecha a mano con espacio suficiente para guardar las tarjetas junto con sus sobres. Hoy estoy posteando una tarjeta que preparé para participar del challenge de Friday Sketchers #52. Tenía la tarjetería abandonada y para volver a encarrilarme (ok, esa fue la excusa...LOL!), compré unos sellos de C.C. Designs (¿vieron el por qué de la excusa? LOL!) y me puse a jugar con ellos.

Los papeles son de Imaginisce y distresé todos los bordes, más cosí a máquina algunos de los bordes. Como siempre, ¡gracias por mirar!

Happy Mother's Day & Cards

So Happy Mother's Day to all those mothers out there ;-) I hope that you all had a wonderful day... I sure did! We had a family gathering... it's always interesting when you see faces that you don't get to see during the rest of the year (if you know what I mean...LOL!), and of course all the talking and eating... ufff!! Anyway, even though I love my relatives, I'm glad it is all over ;-) ***Sshhh... do you want to know a secret? I'd rather spend time with the mothers of my life all year round than just one day ;-)***
Pues Feliz Día de las Madres a todas las que son madres ;-) Espero que hayan pasado un lindo día... ¡yo sí! Tuvimos una pequeña reunión familiar... siempre se pone interesante cuando ves caras que sólo ves una vez al año (si es que sabes a lo que me refiero...LOL!), y por supuesto toda la comida y la plática... ufff!! En fin, aún cuando adoro a mi familia, me alegra que ya este día haya pasado ;-) ***Shhhh... ¿quieren saber un secreto? Prefiero pasármela el año entero visitando y procurando a las madres de mi familia que hacerlo sólo un sólo día al año ;-)***

I was in the mood for something vintage... I've been attracted to this style recently. Even though I always distress my paper projects, I always liked to mix modern style with old style... but now my entire tendency is to use everything "old & vintage". The first card is 4 3/4 x 4 3/4 and all borders were distressed. The second one is 6x6 and I only stitched... see:
Estaba en el "mood" de algo "vintage"... me he sentido atraída por este estilo últimamente. A pesar de que siempre distreso mis proyectos de papel, siempre he procurado mezclar lo moderno con lo viejo... pero ahora mi tendencia completa es en usar todo "viejo y vintage". La primera tarjeta es tamaño 4 3/4 x 4 3/4 y la distresé a vuelta redonda. La segunda tarjeta es tamaño 6x6 y sólo cosí en ella... vean:
